Nowadays, evaporation measurement in Indonesia is measured by Open pan evaporation Class A that placed in Instruments field in a Meteorological station .The evaporation is known by measure the advanced of water in the open pan evaporation in (mm), but there’s a deviation of that method measure in read the scale of still-well, and then there is a Ultrasonic sensor to solve this problem that work by radiate frequency waves from Transmitter and receiver to measure the evaporation .but ,the Ultrasonic sensor have a advantage and disadvantage.
Ultrasonic sensor measure the distance between water surface and Sensor and work by Physic rule (s=v/t), the distance is known by sound speed divide by time of waves frequency from transmitter to receiver/2. That measure is more accurate than open pan evaporation because there is not a parallax error and with this sensor we are able to make an automatic evaporation measurement, so it is make facilitate of measurement.
The disadvantage of this sensor is need a
system that make control of its work and addition components .it’s like a
Algorithmic of micro controller program to know the evaporation total (by
difference advance of water in first and last measure in a day), communication
module if we want to send the measurement data direct to our PC and an
Interface program that use to show the type data it is graphic or recorded
data.
Based
on the above mentioned cases, the used of ultrasonic sensor is have more
advantage to measure the evaporation because the disadvantage can be resolve by
the engineer that have learned about instruments and electronics to be a evaporation sensor system.
